StimScience is a startup with a mission to translate advances in neuroscience into everyday consumer devices. Our science team has spent the past 2+ years pioneering applications of non-invasive, personalized brain stimulation. With seed funding from Khosla Ventures, we are building a team to launch the initial product of this breakthrough research - the first consumer device to help your brain to naturally achieve a longer, higher-quality night’s sleep.
We are looking for our first mechanical engineer to lead the development of our first consumer device. This is a critical role for us - you’ll be a member of our core product team and report to our CTO. You’ll be responsible for the full consumer device design, including rapid prototyping, testing, and managing manufacturing. As an early team member, you’ll also have broad exposure to other areas of our technology, including the science, electrical design, industrial design, and software team. In this role, you will be responsible for:
Mechanical design of a consumer (wearable) device
Performing design analysis and calculations
Rapid prototyping and testing
Establishing and implementing testing, failure analysis, and verification procedures
Selection of materials for quality, comfort, and manufacturability
Interface with industrial design and UX design team
Part of all development and specification for product design
This position is “office optional”. You can do this job remotely, but if you prefer an office environment, we’ve got a fantastic office and sleep lab in downtown Berkeley.
BS in mechanical engineering
6+ years experience in product design and managing production teams
Experience in consumer device design
Experience with material science, manufacturing principles and best practices
Experience with rapid prototyping and testing
Strong Solidworks/AutoCAD experience (design and analysis packages)
Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams effectively
Strong documentation skills
Demonstrated independent operation/development skills
Experience leading DF(x) and FA processes for a mass production device or product
Preferred Additional skills
MS in Mechanical Engineering a plus
Multiple manufacturing processes
Working directly with 3D printing machines is a plus
Experience with wearable devices is a plus
Startup experience is nice to have but not required
